We finally got a day at home so that we could work on the house and wouldn't you know it, I got a headache. I got a lot done but it wasn't much fun. Dad got a lot of work accomplished. Hurray.
Look at the sky. Starting last Thursday the weather report has said that we will be having 9 days straight of rain.
I got such a hoot out of the weatherman who said, (and this could only be from a true Oregonian), "Finally. We are going to get some rain". Well, as you can see, we didn't and Dad was very happy about that.
He was up on the ladder and busy painting (and minding his own business) when one of the dog walkers stopped and said, "You're a brave man, don't you know it is going to rain"? Dad's was a silent answer as he looked up to the sky and then back to the man and shrugged his shoulders. The man moved on.
Dad was able to complete the trim on the north side of the house and also the garage. It really looks nice.
We had determined that we would work on the kitchen cabinets today but when we drove out to Rockler in Beaverton to get some top coat finish and Dad saw how beautiful the weather was he just couldn't help himself and changed the plan.
We stopped at our favorite Italian restaurant on the way home and enjoyed some spaghetti and meatballs and lasagna.
They always serve way too much so Dad will have lunch on Monday. Just think, Matthew, if you'd have been here, that would have been yours. My refrigerator misses you too!
He was listening to Les Miserables on his IPod so the time was very enjoyable for him.
We are having such a good time discussing the book on our evening walks. The book is 87 hours long. You know how I hate to come to the end of a book. It's kind of like saying goodbye to a friend. But this one will be with us for a good long time.
Dad was able to get all of the cabinets covered with the veneer.
We bought a clear top coat in a semi-gloss with just a touch of amber in it. We are looking forward to doing that some time this next week.
We talked for a long time with the man at the store getting his ideas and suggestions for our project. He was fun to talk with and informed us that his house is pretty much like the cobbler's kids who have no shoes.
Every time his wife decides that she wants to buy something he says, "Oh, I can make that". Then he never does.
This is one of the new cupboard doors that we had made. You remember Alex? He is the Russian man who had a shop next to ours. Anyway, he did our cupboard doors and Dad made him a couple of signs.
The signs were beautiful and so are the doors. These have no finish on them as yet but they are really nice.
Alex will be coming back to install them with European hinges (the kind that can't be seen) as soon as we have gotten the top coat on the cupboards and doors.
We haven't chosen the back splash tiles yet but with these color choices it won't be difficult.
Don said that he will come over and help with the installation of both the tile and the granite countertop since he has experience doing both.
Well, that catches you up with our progress. What a nice day!

I envy what you're able to get accomplished in the small amount of time you have. Matthew chuckled at your fridge comment, and so did I. I can't wait to see those cupboard doors- a flight home is one more reason to want our house to sell!
Keep up the awesome work!
